Girls & first periods
Support suited to each girl's age as she begins puberty: understanding body changes and early cycles, building a positive relationship with food and feeling prepared for her first period.
Functional health and wellness for women and girls. I’m a qualified nurse and naturopathic nutritionist with a particular focus on nutritional biochemistry and metabolic health. I look at how gut health, liver function, detoxification pathways and hormone regulation interact to identify underlying contributors to symptoms and guide individual nutrition and lifestyle support.
When your body no longer feels like your own and nobody seems able to explain why, it is time to look at the bigger picture.
Sometimes symptoms do not fit neatly into one box. A feeling that your body is simply no longer coping as it once did.
These symptoms can be interconnected. At Evolve Female Wellness, I look beyond isolated symptoms and explore the wider systems that may be contributing to the bigger picture, including hormone health, digestive function, liver detoxification pathways, bile flow, mitochondrial function, nutrient and mineral status, blood sugar regulation, oxidative stress, histamine metabolism and mast cell activation.
The aim is not simply to chase symptoms. It is to ask why they are happening in the first place. To break the picture down, identify the patterns and work step by step towards the underlying drivers. This root cause investigation brings your history, nutrition, lifestyle and existing results together, with medical investigation where needed.
If you have been told that your blood tests are “normal”, yet you still do not feel well, there may be more of the picture to explore.
When you know something is not right, but nobody can seem to join the dots, we start looking deeper.
Perhaps your energy has disappeared. Your digestion has become unpredictable. Your cycle, mood or sleep no longer feels like your own. Or you have been told that everything looks fine, while you still feel anything but fine.
You do not need to arrive with the perfect explanation. We can begin with what you are experiencing, look at the patterns around it and help the pieces make more sense.
Health changes through life, and support should evolve with it. We begin with what matters most now, while keeping the wider picture in view.
Support suited to each girl's age as she begins puberty: understanding body changes and early cycles, building a positive relationship with food and feeling prepared for her first period.
Nutrition, lifestyle and appropriate supplement guidance for menstrual concerns, PMS, PCOS and endometriosis support, perimenopause and menopause, with your whole experience in view.
Practical help with nourishment, food choices and daily habits when bloating, bowel changes or food sensitivities are affecting everyday life.
Support with nourishment, energy, sleep, stress, mindset and sustainable routines, all considered together rather than as unrelated problems.
Hormones can affect digestion. Digestion can affect nourishment. Sleep, stress, life stage and daily pressures can change how everything feels. Looking at one piece in isolation can miss the wider picture.
My approach brings your story, nutrition, digestion, cycle, energy and emotional wellbeing into the same conversation. Together, we identify sensible priorities that fit your real life.
Puberty can bring unfamiliar feelings, new symptoms and plenty of uncertainty. I offer a calm space that suits each girl's age, where girls and their families can talk about first periods, cycle changes, nourishment and everyday wellbeing.
If pain, very heavy bleeding, missing periods or other symptoms need investigation, I can help families prepare the right questions for a doctor.
We talk through what has changed, what you have tried and what you most want help understanding.
We review your food, habits and existing results in context, and identify useful questions to discuss with your clinician.
You leave with clear priorities that feel possible to live with and can evolve as your needs change.
I'm a mum to two girls, a qualified general nurse and a naturopathic nutritionist trained with the College of Naturopathic Medicine. Alongside my formal training, I have completed many additional courses and spent more than two decades supporting people with digestive issues, chronic illness, hormone imbalances and the wider body systems that influence how we feel.
Many people will know me from my previous work where I specialised in digestive health & colon hydrotherapy and supported clients with a wide range of health concerns.
My interest in women's hormones is both personal and professional. For much of my earlier life, I struggled with severe PMS, depression, anxiety, exhaustion and chronic digestive issues. Throughout my twenties, I made many changes to my diet and lifestyle, but I continued to experience anxiety, depression, exhaustion and weight fluctuations linked to extreme bloating and inflammation.
Things came to a head after I had the coil inserted. It works for many, but I felt as though I was losing my mind twice a month, around ovulation and again before my period. I was told this was unheard of and that it was all in my mind. Well, that was the end of my journey with the coil, and out it came!
I had undergone so many tests over the years, yet nothing was found to be wrong with me. So why did I still feel so bad? More than anything, I learned how unsettling it is to know something is wrong and not feel heard. I can't say medicine failed me; it simply wasn't equipped with what I needed. That experience changed the course of my life and career.
I went on to study naturopathic nutrition and hormones extensively, deepening my understanding of women's health. My own journey has taught me that there is rarely one neat, permanent fix. Our bodies and their needs continue to change throughout life.
That is why I want to walk beside women and girls through the bumps in the road: to listen, explain what may be happening, help reduce fear and offer practical ways to support themselves.
Knowledge can be empowering, especially when it helps us feel more informed, confident and understood.
My work draws on my nursing and naturopathic nutrition qualifications, additional professional training and more than two decades of experience supporting people with complex health concerns.
My approach considers the relationships between the liver, hormones, the gut, immune signalling, mast cells, histamine, mitochondrial function, blood sugar regulation and the nervous system. This includes an in depth understanding of:
Female hormone health sits within this wider picture. Perimenopause, menopause, hormone metabolism and the metabolic and physiological changes that affect women throughout life all deserve to be considered alongside digestion, nourishment, energy and stress.
Alongside numerous other courses, I have chosen the Hormone Advanced Practice Module from the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) for my further hormone training.
One question has driven much of my work: why do so many women reach a point where they simply no longer feel well?
Often it is not one thing. Hormones interact with the liver. The liver interacts with the gut. The gut communicates with the immune system. Histamine, mast cells, blood sugar, nutrient status, stress physiology and mitochondrial energy can all influence how a woman feels.
Rather than looking at each symptom in isolation, I want to understand the connections between them and help women make sense of what their bodies may be trying to tell them.
